Your security is Cleo's top priority. Here's how your data is protected.
Why does Cleo need my banking login information?
Cleo needs you to enter your login credentials in order to establish a secure connection with your bank or credit card company. For this, the app uses a banking provider called Plaid to handle the connection to your financial institution.
Your details are never stored on Cleo's servers
All of your banking details are handled by Plaid using the latest security technology to securely connect to nearly 12,000 financial institutions in 17 countries. Cleo and Plaid adhere to the highest security standards to ensure the safety of customers' data at all times. With credential tokenisation and sophisticated encryption algorithms Plaid's API is compliant with PCI DSS requirements.
Once a secure connection is established, Plaid enables Cleo to analyse and categorise thousands of historic transactions as well as current balance information, securely and automatically.
Accessing in read-only mode
Your transaction data is retrieved in read-only mode, meaning that Cleo can only view your encrypted historical transaction data. At no time can Cleo access your accounts, and nobody can move money in or out of your account.
It's between you and Cleo
Only you and Cleo can view your transactions. Your credentials on Cleo servers and your transaction history is encrypted with all personally identifiable information removed upon receipt.Β
Cleo will:
Never stores your banking login details
Never access your banking login details
Use bank-level 256-bit encryption to connect the service and our servers
