What’s a Smart Investing account?
It's an automated investment account that’s matched to your goals and risk tolerance. Your money goes into a portfolio of Exchange Traded Funds (ETFs) and is managed for you, so you don't have to pick investments or decide when to buy and sell.
Atomic Invest LLC, an SEC-registered investment adviser, manages the day-to-day investing for you based on the portfolio you select.
Tiered advisory fees apply to your Smart Investing account based on your Cleo subscription: Free 0.99%, Plus 0.75%, Pro 0.45%, and Builder 0.25% per year. These are in addition to your Cleo subscription fee and the ETFs' own expense ratios.
How is my portfolio chosen?
When you apply, you'll answer a few questions about your goals and how much risk you're comfortable with.
Based on your answers, Atomic Invest matches you with 1 of 3 portfolios: Cautious, Balanced, or Ambitious.
Can I choose a different portfolio?
Yes. Changing your portfolio changes the investment profile Atomic Invest uses to manage your account, and switching may involve selling investments, which can have tax consequences.

How is my portfolio managed?
Atomic Invest LLC, an SEC-registered investment adviser, manages your portfolio. Your money is spread across a diversified mix of funds based on the portfolio you chose.
Over time, some funds grow faster than others. Atomic rebalances your portfolio automatically, buying and selling to bring your mix back on target. Rebalancing involves buying and selling investments in your account and may have tax consequences.
What if I have other questions about my portfolio?
Atomic's support team can help.
Will I owe taxes on my Smart Investing account?
A few things can create a tax impact:
Selling investments. Withdrawing money usually means selling some of your investments, which can create a capital gain or loss.
Changes inside your portfolio. Atomic Invest manages your portfolio and may buy or sell investments to keep it on track. That can create gains or losses even if you haven't moved any money.
Dividends and interest. Money your investments pay out is generally taxable in the year you receive it, even if it stays in your account.
Closing your account. Closing sells everything in your account, which can have a tax impact.
Atomic Brokerage, not Cleo, prepares your tax documents. You'll get a 1099 composite covering the prior tax year and you can find it in your Cleo app.
