Withdrawing money means selling your existing investments, which could have tax implications. If you sell an investment for more than you paid, it’s a capital gain. If you sell it for less, it’s a capital loss. Capital gains may be taxable, and capital losses may be used to offset capital gains. How much you owe depends on your situation, so talk to a tax professional if you need help.
How long does it take for my funds to be withdrawn?
Your investments will be sold when the market is open. Sale proceeds may take up to 1 business day after the trade before they are available for withdrawal.
Because processing time is based on business days, withdrawals can take up to 5 calendar days when a weekend or market holiday falls in between.
If you’re withdrawing money you deposited recently: deposits are subject to a hold of 5 business days before the funds are available to withdraw. For the first 60 days after a deposit, that money can only be withdrawn back to the bank account it was deposited from.
